Wow, it’s been over a year since we posted anything. Not that there are many paying attention, but a good number of email followers, and I don’t want this site to go dormant. Honestly, I ran out of things that interested me to write about, and creating good posts takes a bit of effort. I do have more time on my hands now, so will try to post more frequently. Topic suggestions welcome: af5np@arrl.net
As mentioned on the Welcome page, this site generally caters to USA hams getting started in amateur radio with local VHF/UHF communications. To that end most topics address US license questions by presenting exam answers in green boxes with helpful explanations and discussion on that specific topic. So I need to review the latest Technician question pool for newer topics, as these are updated every five years and new material is introduced.
I also have a couple of bigger topics in mind which will take a bit of effort to compose: FT8 digital mode and digital mobile radio (DMR) are on the horizon here.
While waiting for new posts, I suggest you go back and review posts on this site for good and helpful material. I’m proud of a lot of these write-ups; especially useful: Understanding Antennas, Repeaters, Disabling WIRES, Directed Net, Signal Reports, Know Your Radio, EmComm Toolbox, How Far Can I Communicate?, National Simplex Calling Frequency, Clutter, Tech Class Distant Contacts, Distress Call, Impedance, Safety (three separate posts), ham radio bands, ionosphere and HF propagation, Calling Protocol, SWR, Family Comms Plan, Modes, QSO Basics. You can search by topic, or just page through the whole thing starting back at the beginning.
Thanks for reading and hope this site is useful to prospective hams, new hams, and even seasoned hams. You’re the reason I keep it up and running.
